Guiding in Weston Green

Did you know we already have over 100 girls enjoying Guiding in Weston Green? Unfortunately we also have many girls on our waiting lists who, when they reach the relevant age (5 years old to join Rainbows, 7 years old to join Brownies and 10 years old to join Guides) will not be able to join a unit as there are no spaces.

We are trying to find more Voluntary Guiding Leaders who would be willing to open another unit (especially for Rainbows and Brownies), as both sections have over 150 girls on their waiting lists, and many girls will never even get a place at all in a unit.

For those of you who don’t know, Guiding is a girls-only organisation, whose aim is to increase confidence in fun and challenging environments, but at the same time thinking of other people and how we can help them. All units do crafts, cooking, plus learn about other people, places and cultures in a fun way. Some of the units have recently finished the ‘Royal Wedding badge’ where they learnt about different types of weddings, had a tour around the Church, staged their own wedding, had a wedding breakfast, learnt the National anthem, plus lots more!

All prospective Leaders are CRB checked and have references taken up.  They are supported by an experienced Guiding mentor who helps them at all times with ideas for activities, games and crafts. You would be expected to take a First Aid training, and a Safe Space training, and there are Guidelines in the training booklet which outlines the guidance for becoming a Leader. Although each unit meeting is between 1¼ hours (Rainbows) and 1 ¾ hours (Guides), you do need a little time each term to plan meeting, although the girls also help to choose what they would like to do.

If you would like to find out more about the amazing things the girls achieve, and would like to help more girls get into a unit, please either ring me on  020 8398 1300  or email me on 1wgbrownies@gmail.com and I can let you have any information you require. I can assure you us Leaders have as much fun as the girls!

Mrs Kathy Williams, Brown Owl.  1st Weston Green Brownies Esher Division Commissioner (joint).
