Our well established and enthusiastic Parish Choir is looking for a director to conduct two services and two rehearsals each month, with opportunities for further involvement in the musical life of the Parish.
We are a vibrant and sociable choir of about 15 adults which needs a conductor to lead:
- two Sunday Parish Eucharists at 9.45am (excluding August)
- one mid-week rehearsal twice a month (on a weekday evening to be agreed)
- a few special services, including at Easter and Christmas
Additional, but wholly optional, roles could include conducting our Evensongs (x4 per annum) and developing a children’s section within the Parish Choir.
The group currently comprises singers of a wide age and ability range, including some ex-Cambridge choral scholars.
We invite approaches from anyone, from sixth form student conductors to retired music teachers, to develop the group, to build capability and repertoire, so as to enhance the worship of our community.
Plenty of opportunities will exist for any candidate who is keen to play the organ, but this is not a requirement as we currently have an organist.
Our church has a rich musical life and heritage. The building was designed by Edward Maufe (the architect of Guildford Cathedral) and is a local landmark. It has a luxurious acoustic and is a well-known and much-admired concert venue. Recent performances have been given by Kings College, Cambridge and Merton College, Oxford.
The position will attract a salary in line with RSCM rates, which will depend on the level of commitment that can be offered.
The exact role, and commitment that we are looking for, is open to discussion and negotiation and we are happy to build them both around a suitable candidate’s needs.
